Nicholas Jachno will be completing a residency at The Lock-Up while working with Catapult Dance for an upcoming performance at Maitland Regional Art Gallery.

Kar Mun Phoon is The Lock-Up’s COLLECT 2022 Young and Emerging curator. Kar Mun will be working closely with The Lock-Up’s staff to develop and curate it’s annual fundraising exhibition.

During 2022 a series of art workshops will be offered to link the experience and stories of survivors of institutional child sexual abuse, their families and friends, with the creative possibilities of the arts in the lead up to the LOUD SKY exhibition at The Lock-Up in 2023.

Newcastle based theatre and production company Her Productions presents Annie Baker’s adaptation of Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov.

Lucas Abela (Justice Yeldham) will be completing an artist residency at The Lock-Up while in Newcastle performing as part of his SAME BUT DIFFERENT TOUR.

The legendary Lucas Granpa Abela will be presenting his ecstatic performance of vibrating sounds through shards of amplified glass at The Lock-Up as part of Live Nights at The Lock-Up and his Same But Different tour.

Please join us to celebrate the Newcastle launch of How to Be Between, (Giramondo, May 2022), the debut memoir by Bastian Fox Phelan about female facial hair, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and negotiating identity for those visibly between gender binaries.

Artist and composer Isha Ram Das Simpson will be participating in a residency at The Lock-Up for the development of a new performance work commissioned by The Lock-Up and performed at the opening of PROMISE THE EARTH.

Promise the Earth is the next in a five-part exhibition series launched two years ago at The Lock-Up. Curated by Meryl Ryan and Naomi Riddle, each exhibition takes one of the elements – water, earth, fire, air and æther (the post internet realm) – as its defining feature.

Joseph Franklin will be completing an artist in residency at The Lock-Up for the development of a new ballet based on the story of Newcastle painter William Dobell, to be premiered at the Multi-Arts Pavilion Lake Macquarie, in November 2022.

Deborah Kelly will be completing multiple artist residencies at The Lock-Up over this period for the development, installation and subsequent public programming for her upcoming exhibition CREATION.

CREATION is a new religion, manifesting in spectacle and intimacy. A faith, a gathering of intention and purpose with which to face an era when paid opinion trumps environmental evidence. CREATION proposes a crowd-sourced belief system teeming with pleasures and possibilities.

Artist Meng-Yu Yan will be participating in an artist residency for the installation of their work in the exhibition PLAYGROUND.

A group exhibition featuring artists Lucas Abela, Kalanjay Dhir, Oliver Harlan and Meng-Yu Yan and newly commissioned works by Billy Bain, Tiyan Baker and EJ Son.

Alex Seton will be completing a residency at The Lock-Up for the install of his upcoming solo exhibition.

In this exhibition of new work, multidisciplinary artist Alex Seton will explore the possibilities of combining glass and stone to consider the themes of memory and place and how they relate to Australia’s history of migration.

Stories of survival uncovered through the work of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in the Hunter Region will come to the foreground in this unique exhibition.

Join us for the closing weekend of RADICAL SLOWNESS as artist Aude Parichot and curator Anna May Kirk present an intimate in-conversation about Parichot’s practice and ever evolving work in the exhibition.
