ARTIST IN RESIDENCE / Damien Frost
24th August – 28th September, 2026
Damien Frost is an Australian-born, London-based photographer whose work explores identity, transformation and the aesthetics of subculture. Working behind the scenes in London’s theatre world by day, Frost turns his lens at night to the theatricality of the city’s queer clubs and alternative nightlife. His photographs capture fleeting moments of beauty, self-expression and performance among drag artists, goths, fetishists, cabaret performers and club kids, transforming ephemeral encounters into enduring visual statements.
Operating at the intersection of documentary and fine art photography, Frost’s practice examines visibility, resilience and beauty within communities that exist beyond the mainstream. His work has been exhibited at The Lock-Up Newcastle, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, the Museum of London and the V&A, and featured in The Guardian, Vice, Dazed & Confused and Hunger Magazine. His book Night Flowers was published by Merrell in 2016.
During a residency at The Lock-Up, photographer Damien Frost will develop a new body of portrait work for Nightflowers, a major exhibition presented as part of the New Annual Festival at Watt Space Gallery.
