PANEL DISCUSSION / Becoming and Beyond
5:30-7:30pm, 2nd July, 2026

Becoming and Beyond brings together artists and cultural heavy-hitters to discuss the individuality of our local artistic ecosphere – past, present and future.
Where do we exist? Where are we headed?
What defines Muloobinba / Newcastle as an arts hub. Who gets to decide?
This panel brings together artists, archivists, and cultural workers embedded in the city’s established yet evolving creative landscape to unpack a scene that has long thrived at the intersection of grit and refinement.
From DIY publishing and counterculture to fine arts, music, education and advocacy, the conversation aims to trace the informal networks, shared spaces, and persistent labour that shape Newcastle’s identity above and below the surface.
This panel will be hosted and facilitated by COLLECT 2026 curator Ella Grace Paterson and COLLECT: Focus curator Elloise Ansell.
This event marks the closing week of our annual fundraiser exhibitions COLLECT and COLLECT: Focus. Don’t miss your last chance to see works from over 100 artists from the Hunter, we’re very proud of all the artists in our community!
Bar open from 5.30pm.
Panel discussion kicks off at 6pm.
