Join us for what is sure to be a delightful and insightful evening as Hunter based artists Lottie Consalvo and James Drinkwater discuss their respective practices and current exhibitions at The Lock-Up, with journalist and writer Scott Bevan.
FINAL REMEMBERING and IN THE HALLS OF MY YOUTH are the first major exhibitions by this dynamic creative duo in Newcastle to date with the artists presenting works developed individually shown side by side. Both artists are at pivotal points in their careers and in the past three years have gained national recognition for their individual practices.
The exhibition and event will be a unique opportunity to see and hear from the artists. Drinks and exhibition viewing from 5.30pm. Talk starts at 6.00pm.

ABOUT SCOTT BEVAN
Scott Bevan is a writer, journalist and musician. He is the author of five books, including “Bill: The Life of William Dobell”, “The Hunter” and “Battle Lines: Australian Artists at War”. His most recent book, released just before Christmas, is “The Harbour”. Scott has also directed and presented a number of documentaries, including “Oll: The Life and Art of Margaret Olley” and “Arthur Phillip: Governor, Sailor, Spy”, which were broadcast on ABC TV. Scott is a proud, and recently returned, Novocastrian, who, when not hanging around art galleries, can be found kayaking on local waterways and drinking Hunter wine – but usually not at the same time.
ABOUT LOTTIE CONSALVO
Lottie Consalvo is a Newcastle based artist originally from Melbourne. In 2009 Consalvo moved to Germany, living between Berlin and Leipzig for three years pushing and expanding her practice. In 2014 Consalvo was commissioned to make the performance Until distance passes for Tiny Stadiums Live Art Festival. In the same year, Consalvo co-curated an exhibition of long durational and endurance performances entitled Enduring Parallels at The Lock-Up, Newcastle. In 2015 Consalvo was selected to be in residence with Marina Abramovic in Sydney as part of Kaldor Public Art Projects 30 – Marina Abramovic: in residence. In 2018, the artist will have her first solo museum exhibition at Heide Museum of Modern Art in Victoria. Consalvo’s work is held in collections including Artbank, Allens Law Firm, Warner Music Australia and private collections within Australia, UK, Germany and Canada. She is represented by Dominik Mersch Gallery, Sydney and NKN Gallery Melbourne.
ABOUT JAMES DRINKWATER
James Drinkwater grew up in Newcastle and studied at the National Art School in Sydney before moving to Melbourne for several years. He then moved to Germany and lived between Berlin and Leipzig for three years where he continued his practice. In 2011 Drinkwater received the Marten Bequest travelling Scholarship and was hung in the Dobell Drawing Prize. He was a finalist for the Wynne prize in 2014, 2015,2017 and the Sulman prize in 2016. He was a finalist for the Brett Whitley Travelling Scholarship for three consecutive years before winning it in 2014.
Drinkwater’s work is held in major public and private collections both nationally and internationally, including the Macquarie Bank Art Collection, Artbank, Gold Coast City Art Gallery, Macquarie University, Bond University, the Newcastle Art Gallery, Allens Law Firm and private collections in New York, Singapore, Germany and the UK. He is represented by Nanda/Hobbs Gallery, Sydney and NKN Gallery, Melbourne.
