ART BENDER at The Lock-Up
Thought-provoking and entertaining, Art Bender 2015 is all about celebrating the Hunter’s creative spirit.
6 – 9:30pm Friday 8 and 6 – 9:30pm Saturday 9 May 2015
Over 25 established and emerging Hunter-based practitioners inhabit and respond to the cells and the galleries throughout The Lock-Up in the first ever Art Bender weekend festival.
Each night has its own unique character. Through poetry, animation and theatrical installation, night one tackles themes ranging from global politics to aspects of the human condition. Night two promises to be rich in colour, movement, sound and energy with street protests, painting performance, music, dance and more.
Across both nights, Bender-goers can indulge in gourmet food and drinks from Newcastle’s inventive culinary and vinous champions, The Reserve Wine Bar on Friday night and Casa De Loco on Saturday.
Curated by Meryl Ryan and Michelle Corbett from a strong field of submissions, Art Bender features the work of Michael Bell, Gillian Bencke, Deidre Brollo, Tim Buchanan, Collector, Rob Cleworth (with John Cleworth), Dale Collier, Lottie Consalvo, Ineke Dane, Rowena Foong & Brett McMahon, David Graham, Doug Heslop, Jodie Kell, Roje Ndayambaje, Lu Quade & Byron Williams, Ben Kenning, Cadi McCarthy, Jessica Coughlan & Raegan Williams, Jason Nelson, Emily Roberts, Andrew Styan, Clare Weeks, Martin Wilson, Damian Wright.
