Proud Kalkadoon Woman and Emerging Artist, Lacey Bilger – mentored by Jasmin Sheppard, will be utilising this residency to continue developing her work, Low Level into a 20-minute durational piece. Lacey was engaged in Catapult’s ACTIVATE emerging artist program in 2023 while finalising her studies at NAISDA Dance College, which led to a Catapult facilitated commission of Low Level by Newcastle Art Gallery.

“I’m trying to captivate the audience to see me embodying a Goanna on a canvas in a Western Way of doing things. I extended this with taking my story of the canvas to real life and embodying a Goanna both Darkinjung and Wiradjuri and the destruction in my life with not just loosing mother earth but on a deeper level loosing a blood relative recently and trying to regain strength and hope for the future.” Lacey Bilger
