ARTIST IN RESIDENCE / Julie-Anne Long
11th June – 16th June, 2024
The Lock-Up welcomes dance artist Julie-Anne Long to our Artist In Residence apartment, to conduct research for a one-off performance in 2025.
Julie-Anne Long is an artist/scholar living on Dharug and Gundungurra land, Blue Mountains, NSW. Julie-Anne works in a variety of dance contexts as performer, choreographer, director, producer, mentor, dramaturg, curator and teacher. She has a significant solo practice, as well as a more communal, collaborative way of working with other like-minded artists, within the diversity of Australian contemporary performance. Julie-Anne is currently a Senior Lecturer in Creative Arts at Macquarie University.
“The Lock-Up Residency allows me time to dream up possibilities for a new performance project, inspired by my 2004 Hill End performance event The Nun’s Picnic. Twenty years on, reuniting with the original line up of renowned senior dance artists, I am planning a new live performance event and film work(s), in response to the historically charged environment of Newcastle. During my residency I will be spending time in-situ, looking for sites around the city of Newcastle, with the aim to produce a unique one-off performance event for 2025.” – Julie-Anne Long
