In a series of one-on-one interviews, Experimenta artist Gail Priest invites audience members to take part in one-on-one her artwork, SonoLexic, and take part in a broader experience of listening in a noise filled world.
Sitting with the artists and listening to a pre-recorded soundtrack via headphones, the artist Gail Priest will talk with participants about the way in which they process the sounds around them, playing them short samples of interesting listening. The conversation will attempt to find ways of creatively describing what we hear. The intentions is to enhance our understanding of listening by making ourselves more conscious of how we process this through language – learning how to listen to our listening.
The interviews will be recorded and the artist will create a poetic condensation of each exchange, reflecting on the response from the individual interview or the full collection from the gallery. As part of en evolving archive, the written responses will be compiled into an interactive e-publication, which will be available for the general public to view via the EXPERIMENTA MAKE SENSE website throughout the National Tour.
