SHAPES OF RESTRAINT
24th August – 26th August, 2018
SHAPES OF RESTRAINT
A performative work on collective identity.
PERFORMANCE TIMES
6PM FRIDAY 24 AUGUST 2018
6PM SATURDAY 25 AUGUST 2018
The Lock-Up and Catapult Dance present SHAPES OF RESTRIANT, a contemporary dance production and installation exploring collective identity featuring Wiradjuri/Darkinjung artist Dale Collier and renowned choreographer and dancer, Craig Bary.
This activation will see SHAPES OF RESTRAINT manifest as both performances and an installation. Live dance and the work in its entirety can be experienced during performance times. The installation can otherwise be viewed during The Lock-Up’s regular weekend opening hours.
SHAPES OF RESTRIANT began as a performative exploration into the unique subset of tensions that exist as part of the contemporary Australian experience. The work was originally seeded in 2017 as part of Propel, Catapult’s Dance’s choreographic residency program.
Over the course of the last 18 months both Collier and Bary have continued to work through the sensitivities of identity politics, undergoing extensive experimentation and exchange to develop a work that explores the complexities that surround identity and nationhood. The project has draws on a multitude of perspectives and includes contributions from several movement professionals, sound and visual artists.
SHAPES OF RESTRAINT continues The Lock-Up and Catapult Dance’s commitment to the development of multi-disciplinary collaboration and bringing contemporary dance into non- traditional settings.
Tickets $10 per person.
Children are welcome to attend the performance, although it is recommended that they be over 8 years.
