NATURAL CAUSES
9 FEBRUARY – 29 MARCH 2020
OPENING 5.30PM SATURDAY 8 FEBRUARY 2020
Gavin Vitullo is a Hunter-based artist whose evolving multidisciplinary practice composes an amalgamation of reclaimed, man-made and natural sculpted materials.
Examining the physical relationships of form and surface, of action and of consequence, Natural Causes questions the perpetual nature of the co-existence of man and environment. Through his sculptural forms of carved wood, reclaimed materials and organic matter, the artist examines the existential complexities of creation, coexistence and destruction – with fire as the catalyst for change.
Vitullo is a Hunter based artist who works from a studio space at the Creator Incubator, Newcastle. He has been the recipient of multiple awards, notably the Newcastle Emerging Art Prize and the Wollombi Sculpture in the Vineyards prize and in 2013 was commissioned to create a significant large scale public sculpture, ‘Undercurrent’ in Lake Macquarie.
