The transience of existence and fragility of life are recurring themes of Fries’ installation practice. Based in Sydney, Fries creates site-sensitive installations using natural or domestic materials. In 2010 Fries won the Japan Foundation New Artist Award which will take her to Japan later this year. During her residency Fries created a number of installations within the Lock-Up spaces, exploring ropes and fibres in particular.
