JULIE VULCAN AND ASHLEY SCOTT ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
This residency undertaken by Julie Vulan and Ashley Scott coincides with the performance and installation of ‘RIMA’ which will take place at The Lock-Up over 20 – 22 March 2015.
Julie Vulcan is a Sydney based interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans performance, installation, durational and site-specific work. Recent works include ‘I Stand In’ (Venice International Performance Art Week Italy 2014, Performatorium Canada 2014 & SPILL Festival UK 2013) ‘Drift’ (Festival of Live Art Melbourne & Metro Arts Brisbane 2014), and ‘Redress #7’ (Rapid Pulse International Performance Festival Chicago USA 2014).
Ashley Scott is a musician and media artist whose extensive experience in computing informs his practice. His work incorporates an audio/visual/software arts practice involving live music, commissions, gallery works and installation. Recent works include music for Deborah Pollard’s ‘Yowza Yowza Yowza’ (University of Wollongong 2014), music performances in Australia and New Zealand and the installation ‘Carnival of Animal’ (Articulate Gallery Sydney, 2013).
Vulcan and Scott started collaborating in 2008 with Scott creating sound design for Vulcan’s performance work. In 2010 they presented ‘Sending the Message’ at the Dictionary of Sydney launch, Customs House. In response they formed SQUIDSILO – committed to exploring new ways of creating and developing work that inhabits multiple simultaneous spaces and incorporates the physical and the virtual.
In 2013 they were artists in residence at the Lock-up Newcastle and Bundanon Trust developing RIMA.
