INSIDE I OUTSIDE
Artist Ruth Feeney and architectural duo Anthrosite produce large-scale, responsive installations defined by and working within their assigned spaces to create the exhibition INSIDE I OUTSIDE.
Artist Ruth Feeney and architectural duo Anthrosite produce large-scale, responsive installations defined by and working within their assigned spaces to create the exhibition INSIDE I OUTSIDE.
Artist Ruth Feeney responds to the exterior space – the Yard, and architect duo Anthrosite responds to the interior space – the Gallery. This assignment of space inverts the usual confines or setting for their respective practices, placing the artistic work outside and the architectural practice inside.
The simple methodology of defining and experiencing form is explored by the work by Anthrosite as the duo examines The Lock-Up space by filling the Gallery with disposable bio-wood cones, suspended at defined intervals.
Objects, actions and spaces from domestic life are explored by artist Ruth Feeney. Her work, Hanging Garden, takes her household routines outside to the suburban bush. Leaves are collected, cleaned, sorted, trimmed and returned to their suspended state. The work is a celebration of order, ritual and simplicity.
About Anthrosite
Dana Hutchinson and Mark Spence are both registered architects & co-founders of Anthrosite – a Newcastle based architectural practice. Both are involved with the design, documentation and delivery of a number of residential commission and both combine their architectural practice with teaching at the University of Newcastle.
About Ruth Feeney
Ruth Feeney is an installation and fibres artist based in Newcastle, NSW. The intent of her work is to de-familiarise overlooked objects and spaces by presenting them to audiences in an unexpected or unconventional manner. Through the practise of objectifying the anomalous, the audience’s perceptions are separated from the nondescript and coerced toward new thought.
Feeny has recently exhibited at Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery and has a solo exhibition planned for Maitland Regional Gallery in 2016.
