EXPERIMENTA returns to The Lock-Up with their 8th national touring exhibition EXPERIMENTA LIFE FORMS, an exhibition that explores the changing notions of life in response to new scientific research and technological change. Featuring 26 contemporary Australian and International artists working across diverse artforms – including robotics, bio-art, screen-based works, installations, participatory and generative art – the exhibition makes significant contribution to current dialogues around defining life across science, technology, biology and First Nations Epistemology.

ABOUT THE BANDS

Defektro is a band characterized by harsh machine produced junk metal sounds, who have performed together for over 25 years. Formed in Tokyo, Japan, Defektro, from time to time, comprises a 3 human, many machine noise unit. The founder Hirofumi Uchino, a futuristic Dr Frankenstien, is the evil mastermind and father of the machines invented for Defektro. The sound is produced by the machines, noise instruments and sonic weapons then sampled, effectively chewed up and spat out for the pleasure of the audience. Over 30 titled recordings have been released from various record labels around the world. Internationally Defektro has toured the United States, Japan, Europe, and continues to perform domestically.

XNoBBQX is the improvised experimental guitar and drums duo of Matt Earle (Breakdance the Dawn) and Nick Dan. They have earned a reputation as a musical quandary for their at the same time standoffish and engaging performances. Both nationally and internationally they have shared stages with artists such as Keiji Haino and Alex Zhang Hungtai.

Alzheimer Blanks
Founded in 1999 and having existed in many forms/line-ups since, ALZHEIMER BLANKS in the present day is one person engaging with a sampler as tape machine; informed by the swing of something simple, inspired by The Man Who Knew Too Little. Over & over again. Repetition is all there is.

Keith Urban KaraokeAnother side hustle from Grog pappy who have been responsible for fringe bozo-noise and difficult sound concoctions for over a decade in Novacastrian multiversal sphere. Also joined by Scorched Jesus, they hold no bars in showcasing the unpopular and undesirable artefacts of tonal abstraction and acidic hallways. They will be playing songs from their new album ‘time signature mustang salty.’
