EXHIBIT A SYMPOSIUM
31st October, 2015
EXHIBIT A SYMPOSIUM
A free event exploring topics of crime, criminality and the criminal subject.
9.30AM – 10.30AM
Panelists: Dani Marti (artist), Tina Havelock Stevens (artist), Carolyn McKay (artist and academic), Kit Messham-Muir (academic).
The question becomes: to what extent do the rights conferred on artists – their right to practice outside the constraints of a risk society, to not play it safe, to ensure their own dignity of risk – compete and conflict with the rights of the vulnerable subjects who are sometimes the subjects of their work?
PANEL 2: SEX SELLS AND CRIME PAYS
Shifting ideas about sex, gender and sexuality are deeply implicated in the identity politics that pre-occupy many contemporary art practices. But these practices exist in a broader contemporary context of public concern fuelled by populist politics around issues such as the sexualisation of children, gay marriage, gender non-conforming identities, even the resurgence of feminist ideals.
