Multidisciplinary artist Emma Fielden will take up residency at The Lock-Up to install her site specific solo exhibition AN IMMEASURABLE DISTANCE, which explores the nature of infinity, the universe and our human place in it.
This exhibition brings together The Lock-Up’s distinct architectural history as prison, a place of confinement and Fielden’s ongoing examination of infinite and infinitesimal phenomena through installation, sculpture, performance and video.
ABOUT EMMA FIELDEN
Emma Fielden is a multidisciplinary artist working across installation, drawing, sculpture, performance and video to examine infinite and infinitesimal phenomena, the universe and our human place in it. Initially trained in the discipline of classical music, then metalsmithing and hand engraving, Fielden’s background instilled in her a fixation on minute details and repetitive processes. Her work draws on interests and concerns across science and poetics, and comes into being at the crossroads of materiality and action. It is often site-responsive.
Residing in Sydney Australia, Fielden is a currently based at Parramatta Artists Studios Rydalmere. Her work has been exhibited in Australia and abroad. She has received awards and grants such as the Paramor Prize Mayoral Award, a NAVA NSW Artists Grant, an Arts Projects Grant and a New Work Grant from the Australia Council for the Arts. Fielden has been a finalist in awards including the NSW Visual Arts Emerging Fellowship, the Blake Prize and the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize. In 2018, she was awarded the Art Omi Australia Committee Fellowship, representing Australia at the Art Omi artists residency in New York, USA.
Emma is represented by Dominik Mersch Gallery in Sydney, Australia.
