CREATION INFO SESSION
/ with Deborah Kelly
1pm – 3pm, 5th June, 2022
As part of CREATION and the New Annual Festival, artist Deborah Kelly, Musical Director Lex Lindsay and local choir maven Natasha Rusterholz will be hosting an info-session at The Lock-Up for the call out for a choir to present a performance work as part of the festival later this year.
PERFORMANCE: The performance will be held at the closing event of the New Annual festival on Sunday 2 October 2022. Rehearsals will be held fortnightly at The Lockup from mid June.
BACKGROUND: CREATION is an artwork in the form of a queer science fiction climate change religion instigated by award-winning Sydney-based artist Deborah Kelly, encompassing visual art, crowd-sourced wisdom, dance moves, animation, gatherings and (especially for Newcastle) transcendent, glorious collective singing.
The Songs of CREATION are urgent and provocative, to collectively express frustration with climate inaction and injustice, and to honour life’s beauty and potential. The songs are arranged without gender roles, for all friends and allies.
These new compositions are from classical, folk, pop, rock and experimental traditions – they aim to challenge and excite the ears. They are suitable for confident singers with some experience. People of all ages, genders and backgrounds are welcome.
At this meeting you will meet artist Deborah Kelly, Musical Director Lex Lindsay and local choir maven Natasha Rusterholz who will be facilitating rehearsals for this project.
