CREATION /
CLOSING CEREMONIAL PROCESSION
7PM, 2nd October, 2022
Join us for the exciting closing event of CREATION featuring an ornate choral procession featuring dance, costumes and the songs of CREATION for the NEW ANNUAL Festival
As the CREATION exhibition draws to a close, Deborah Kelly and collaborators will stage an ornate choral procession across Newcastle, presented at the closing event of the exhibition and the New Annual Festival on Sunday 2 October 2022.
A highlight of The Lock-Up’s artistic program and sparking a rethink of living and engaging with the world, procession members will be adorned in rich regalia and performing musical works based on poems by Ellen van Neerven, Evelyn Araluen, Jinghua Qian, Virginia Barratt and Heather Grace Jones.
Whatever your worship style, CREATION shifts minds and spirits, demanding active participation in shaping the future.
As part of the exhibition and the New Annual festival, The Lock-Up has been hosting an ongoing series of choir rehearsals in preparation for this performance work. CREATION is also accompanied by a series of public workshops in costume-making, song, and dance. Working with local artists, choirs, and dancers, the workshops will culminate in a spectacular procession and concert showcasing the Songs of CREATION composed by Lex Lindsay. The Songs of CREATION are urgent and provocative, to collectively express frustration with climate inaction and injustice, and to honour life’s beauty and potential. The songs are arranged without gender roles, for all friends and allies.
The procession will also be presenting at New Annual’s closing gala event at Town Hall, at 7PM 2 October 2022. To book your tickets click here
