Professional contemporary dancer Jack Tuckerman will be participating in an artist residency at The Lock-Up for the development of his collaborative choreographic work with Mikayla Nangle supported by Catapult Dance Company.
ABOUT JACK TUCKERMAN
Jack (he/him) is a professional contemporary dancer who has danced in numerous productions across Australia and abroad. Jack’s practice is focused on performative improvisation as he seeks to continue his Improvisational practice. Jack seeks to develop his own choreographic practice further through his work as a performer and his creative projects.
Born in regional New South Wales, Jack began training in contemporary dance with Wollongong-based youth company Austinmer Dance Theatre in 2015. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Dance with the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in Perth, graduating in 2021.
Jack’s extensive dancing credentials include performances in Lisa Maris McDonell’s ‘Chamber Dances’ (2017), Cass Mortimer Eipper’s ‘Black Gold’ (2019), Raewyn Hill’s ‘A Moving Portrait (2020), Stephanie Lake’s ‘Colossus’ (2020) remounted for the Perth International Arts Festival, Austinmer Dance Theatre’s ‘Time Will Tell’, which included a stage performance and dance short film and most recently Davide Di Giovanne’s ‘We Are Still Friends’ (2022) a new short work which premiered at the Sydney International Ballet Gala.
Jack is currently involved with creative projects in Newcastle as part of his Artist in Residency program with The Lock-Up in which Jack will collaborate with Mikayla Nangle to choreograph a new performance work supported by Catapult Dance Company. Jack is also working with Catapult on their upcoming productions ‘At the Beach’ and ‘Grappling’ both choreographed by artistic director Cadi McCarthy. Jack is also a member of Proper Motion collective, a multidisciplinary and intergenerational collective directed by Lisa Maris McDonell creating new dance work in regional South Coast NSW.
