Artist in Residence /
Isha Ram Das
11th June – 18th June, 2022
Artist and composer Isha Ram Das will be participating in a residency at The Lock-Up for the development of a new performance work commissioned by The Lock-Up and performed at the opening of PROMISE THE EARTH.
Artist composer Isha Ram Das works with experimental sound techniques to produce installations, performances and recordings. His practice considers how sound serves as an expression of time and culture. For the opening of Promise the Earth, he will perform a new work he is developing as The Lock-Up’s Artist in Residence. Entitled When the Smoke Became a Recollection, the work re-interprets audio recordings from the collaborative archive of siblings Isha Ram Das and Sancintya Mohini Simpson. Through a series of experimental sound-processing techniques, Isha will construct a live soundscape that converses with Sancintya’s Dhūwã̄ (2020), another work in the show. Material objects and an audio recording of the original performance will remain throughout the exhibition as artifacts of the ephemeral live performance.
