ARTIST IN RESIDENCE / HIBALL
7th July – 22nd July, 2024
HIBALL will be utilising this second residency in 2024 to shoot footage for a newly commissioned video & sound work for upcoming group exhibition DATA MINDS.
The Lock-Up again welcomes director-duo HIBALL as Artists in Residence in 2024.
HIBALL are busy shooting Composition for Mnemosyne, a newly-commissioned piece for a upcoming group exhibition DATA MINDS.
Composition for Mnemosyne is a two-channel video and sound work exploring the dynamic relationship between authentic and artificial experiences. Weaving together live action footage with AI generated & manipulated scenes on one-channel, the second channel features local childrens’ choir The Hunter Singers performing an AI-generated score, using voice and gesture to mimic digital sounds.
Exploring the ‘machine gaze’ and ‘networked voice’, the use of the human body and voice become conduits, symbolizing Generation Alpha’s immersion in an increasingly synthetic online environment. Together, these elements create a sensory feedback loop, reflecting the evolving nature of human interaction with synthetic media in the post-industrial age at the beginning of its next technological leap.
This project is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria; the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body; and The Lock-Up’s Artist in Residence program.
