Calling all visual, performance and sound artists, poets, filmmakers, musicians, interdisciplinary collaborators, actors, architects, designers, artisan chefs and beverage specialists… makers of all sorts…

SUBMISSIONS CLOSE – 19 MARCH 2015

The Lock-Up invites you to submit a proposal to be part of city’s most exciting art event for 2015 and to take your place in Newcastle’s cultural history.

Art Bender is a multi-disciplinary celebration of the vision and regenerative spirit evolving in today’s Newcastle. The event is a two-part series of one-night-only happenings. Each night will be themed differently so the nights contrast in character but both will evoke a festival spirit by presenting a variety of socially and politically engaged experiences conceived by Hunter-based practitioners across multiple disciplines.

 
NIGHT ONE – Friday 8 May – thought-provoking, theatrical, political, and reflective in character (think Marina Abramovic, James Turrell, Ai WeiWei, Olafur Eliasson…)
 
NIGHT TWO – Saturday 9 May – dynamic, extroverted, colourful, provocative, funny, activist in character (for inspiration look up Martin Sharp’s The Yellow House collective, Andy Warhol’s The Factory, and the underground arts scene in lofts and alternative spaces of ‘70’s NY, designers Romance Was Born)
 
With a diverse field of constructive, collaborative, imaginative and creative ventures from the visionaries around town, both-night visitation will be a must.
 
FUN, FAST, ENERGETIC
 

Art Bender will be installed and de-installed by the selected contributors on each of the days of the event. All of the spaces at TLU will be curated from the submissions to present an interactive event including pop-up bars and fabulous food.
