ABOUT HONI RYAN
Honi Ryan is an artist with a nomadic social practice. Positioned at the intersection of politically engaged art, radical pedagogy and performative expressions of utopia, Ryan’s collaborative work has intercultural concerns and deals with the present body in relationship to others and their environment.
With long term participatory projects at the core of her socially oriented artistic practice, Ryan works with specific communities in order to bring real world issues into contact with social discourse and public imagining. Utilising nonverbal communication and mindful practice to produce performative guidelines for actions and situations in everyday life, she presents experiential encounters between people and place as art. Consequently, Ryan seeks to put ideas into action in order to speculate upon possible futures.
Ryan has exhibited, performed and presented art and artistic research across Asia, Australia, Europe and North and South America. She has also published widely in the form of books and articles and attended residencies both domestically and internationally. Ryan holds a BVA with University Medal from the University of Sydney and an MFA from the Transart Institute Berlin/NY with Plymouth University UK.
