CALL OUT | IT’S TIMELY TOO
Were you born on 6th or 7th August 1974?
We want to hear your story!
The Lock-Up is seeking individuals born on the 6th or 7th of August 1974 to participate in an exciting research project in conjunction with the upcoming exhibition IT’S TIMELY TOO, an exhibition that examines the Whitlam Legacy and reflects on the ensuing cultural changes that completely transformed life in our country.
Why these dates? A joint sitting of the Australian parliament was convened on 6th and 7th August 1974, in which members of the Senate and House of Representatives sat together as a single legislative body. A number of the legislative changes passed during this joint sitting had far reaching implications for all Australians and still do today.
This project aims to give insight into how Australian’s have experienced the turbulent and diverse political landscape of the past forty years. By participating in this research project individuals born on the 6th or 7th of August 1974, either in Newcastle or elsewhere, will have a unique opportunity to reflect on their personal histories in light of political changes from the Whitlam era that continue to define Australia and shape our relationships to the region and the wider world.
