Join us for our very first ARTS IN THE YARD, a free public program developed as a fun and creative way to introduce contemporary arts practice to kids in a fun and accessible way. This is suitable for children of all ages and their families.

ARTS IN THE YARD will be delivered every Saturday from February 2023, offering free creative workshop sessions to kids and their families. Each week, a new workshop will be developed and delivered by a The Lock-Ups team, encouraging the next generation of creatives through contemporary arts practice in one of Newcastle’s most historic spaces.

The program will begin with a mini tour of The Lock-Up’s historical spaces viewing The Lock-Up’s current exhibition, followed by a free workshop aimed at kids presented in the historical men’s exercise yard.

As The Lock-Up staff and volunteers have taken part in Disability Awareness Training conducted by Accessible Arts, this program will reflect this ethos and has been developed to ensure families with children with a disability have equal access to participate.

Free for children of all ages and their families.

Please note:

– Children cannot be left unattended during ARTS IN THE YARD.

– If you are not at the workshop within 15 minutes of the start time your place will be given to another family.
